After a nationwide seven-month search, Community Consolidated School District 62 has found a new superintendent. On Monday, the school board unanimously approved the hiring of Jane L. Westerhold, who will start July 1.

Westerhold, of Schaumburg, is assistant superintendent for educational services in Valley View Unit District 365, which has 17,000 elementary pupils from Romeoville and Bolingbrook, said District 62 spokeswoman Mindy Ward.

Westerhold has been a principal and director in Schaumburg District 54 and began her teaching career in 1977 as a kindergarten teacher in Edwardsville. She holds a doctorate of education from Loyola University Chicago and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Southern Illinois University.

District 62 has more than 4,900 pupils in kindergarten through 8th grade in 11 schools in Des Plaines.
