I’ve paid into the Social Security system for two decades, expecting to be compensated when I retire.

President Bush would have my generation lose this valuable safety net and receive nothing for what we’ve already contributed.

Older Americans would still receive benefits that would be paid for by a sharp increase in the national debt.

In an attempt to distract us from these issues, Bush would let us siphon future Social Security revenues into a private account that we could gamble on Wall Street.

Instead of solving Social Security’s funding problem, this would make it even worse.

Bush’s plan is like a banker stealing your retirement fund, billing you for the transaction and sending your future retirement contributions to Las Vegas.
