Tom Cavanagh, who played “Ed” for four seasons on NBC, is moving over to CBS to become a “Love Monkey.”
Cavanagh will star in the network’s pilot presentation “Love Monkey,” the showbiz trade papers report. His signing lifts a cast contingency on the Sony Pictures TV/Paramount TV project, clearing the way for filming to go forward.
“Love Monkey,” based on a novel of the same name by Kyle Smith, follows four buddies who are in varying stages of dating and marriage. The story is seen through the eyes of Cavanagh’s character, a single record-company executive.
Cavanagh starred as lawyer/bowling-alley owner Ed Stevens on NBC’s dramedy “Ed,” earning a Golden Globe nomination in 2002. He’s also had a part on “Scrubs” as J.D.’s (Zach Braff) older brother and appeared in two episodes of The WB’s “Jack & Bobby” this season.
