Trustees have renewed talks about increasing donations from developers–possibly up to about double the amounts–so more money can go to schools and parks.

Talks have included raising the donations–based on a population of 1,000–from a fair-market value of $83,000, to $175,000, and park land donation from 5.5 to 10 acres.

Discussions about changing the formula used to determine developer donations began at the committee level in December but were suspended to allow village attorney Jim Knippen to advise staff.

Village Administrator Robin Weaver said the change “would mean that more money may go to our schools and park districts.”

Community development director Pat Watkins said changes are being considered for a variety of reasons.

“The 5.5 acre figure to 10 acre per 1,000 is based on a recommendation from the National Recreation & Park Association,” Watkins said. “This is a figure that is supposed to represent the ideal `open space’ per capita.

“The second figure proposed for adjustment from $83,000 to $175,000 is an increase based on the fair market value of an acre of land in Roselle,” Watkins added. “Timing-wise, the trustees are simply looking to adjust both numbers at the same time.”
