The Park District’s budget reflects profits generated by the city’s Health and Fitness Center and a large grant the district received for park improvements, officials said.

Commissioners last week approved a 2005 budget with projected revenues of $3,988,885 and expenditures of $3,937,111. Last year revenues were $4,136,627 and expenditures were $4,116,376.

The district also is receiving its matching portion of a $122,800 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for a skate park, playgrounds, pathways, benches and drinking fountains at 15601 Central Park Ave.

“I think we’re keeping control of our expenses and trying to make sure we turn the fitness center operation around and maximize revenues,” said Parks and Recreation Director Bill Patterson.

Projected revenues of $280,088 are expected from the Health and Fitness Center this year. It brought in $191,685 last year. The center is expected to spend about $278,896 this year, compared with $267,883 in 2004.
