People like Ken Hansen who think the abolition of the Electoral College is all about partisan advantage are simply incorrect. After all, it was the so-called battleground states that got all the attention and their individual issues addressed while the color-coded states went begging. Anyone in the blue state of Illinois can testify as to how little he or she saw of the presidential candidates during the general election season.
Deep-sixing the Electoral College would compel candidates to compete from sea to shining sea. As far as the partisan advantage argument goes, there is no evidence that voter turnout would increase any more in a blue state than a red state.
