I am a lifelong Cubs fan, introduced to them more than 35 years ago by my father. In all those years I have never witnessed an organization put principle above winning as the Cubs have done this off-season.
When Sammy Sosa was sent packing, he was not just traded, he was fired. With this one move the Cubs sent a message that I hope to share with my own children: How you play the game matters more than the final outcome on the scoreboard. It’s hard to say where the new-look Cubs will finish in the pennant race this season, but they already look like winners to me.
