It’s time to kill Amtrak. Even though I am a rail fan, I detest wasting taxpayers’ money to fund a rolling museum.
In its present format of slow, long-distance trains, it simply is neither competitive, convenient nor energy-saving. What energy is saved if a train designed to hold 200 or more has fewer than 20 riders?
We as a nation will save far more money and energy if we just replace the trains with subsidized buses–far more flexible, and a lot cheaper and more efficient than a train. Sorry Amtrak, you’ve been dead for more than 30 years; they just forgot to tell you to fall down.
