Henry J. Junge, age 66, a longtime resident of Matteson, passed away Feb. 17. He was the beloved husband of Carollee, nee Wollenberg, for 37 years; loving father of Phil (Kris) Junge and Elisa (Jason) Lewis; proud grandfather of Jordan and Cody Junge and Nicholas and Emily Lewis; preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Celeste Junge and a brother, James Junge. Henry was Chairman of the 8th District American Legion “Gift to the Yanks Program” for over 20 years, a past Commander of Rehfeldt-Meyer American Legion Post 474, past President of the Matteson Historical Society and the Rich Township Republicans. He served as Rich Township Collector and was a Matteson Village Trustee from 1993-1997. Henry received the Matteson Good Neighbor Award in 1992, was a 1960 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a 1963 Juris Doctor graduate of Creighton University. He served as Captain in the U.S. Army and was a retiree of Intercounty Title Company. Visitation at Hirsch Lincolnway Chapel, 3501 W. Lincoln Hwy., Matteson, IL on Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at St. Lawrence O’Toole, 214th and Governors Hwy., Matteson. Interment Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Matteson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Legion “Gift to the Yanks Program”. Information, 708-748-8031.
