A majority of Americans say the country is ready to elect a female president in 2008, and many want to see Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) on the ballot. In a nationwide Hearst Newspapers/Siena College poll listing Clinton, Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.) and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as potential candidates, 53 percent chose Clinton.
