Former “Cheers” star Shelley Long is joining the parade of high-profile guest stars on “Boston Legal.”
Long will not be reprising Diane Chambers (“Cheers” was, after all, set in Boston) for the episode, scheduled to air March 20. She’ll play a respected and very proper businesswoman named Miriam Watson.
She seeks help from Crane, Poole & Schmidt when she’s accused of the very improper act of “engaging in sexual conduct for a fee,” ABC says. Miriam is friends with one of the firm’s partners, Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen), and once had a relationship with Denny Crane (William Shatner).
Long won an Emmy in 1983 for her portrayal of Diane on “Cheers” and was nominated five other times — three times as a lead actress and twice as a guest actress when she reprised her role in the show’s final season and on “Frasier” in 1996.
