After a spend-happy Christmas, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey laid low–relatively speaking–on Valentine’s Day.
They spent the day together at home, catching up on “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives,” People magazine reports.
That may be because the pair went hog wild over Christmas, with Lachey receiving a $785,000 Ferrari, according to Us Weekly: “We had a big Christmas, presentwise, so we’re going to scale it back a little bit,” Lachey said.
But it wasn’t a completely boring (Hallmark) holiday: The pair dined at Vibrato’s, an L.A. steakhouse and jazz club.
“NET” GAINS: First-time Oscar host Chris Rock said the five-second decency delay on the ABC show’s Feb. 27 telecast will be a welcome “safety net.”
“I’ve been on TV and been funny not cursing,” Rock said in an interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes” on Sunday. “As far as content is concerned, I will talk about the movies. I’m not really worried about it. I’m sure ABC is more worried about it than me.
“[A time delay is] a safety net. You know, you’re a trapeze artist … you welcome the net,” Rock says.
IT’S TOUR TIME: Destiny’s Child is going global.
The R&B starlets will kick off a 16-country, 72-city tour April 9 in Hiroshima, Japan, the group announced. The tour, “Destiny Fulfilled … and lovin’ it,” is sponsored by McDonald’s.
After Japan, Destiny’s Child will perform throughout Australia and Europe and eventually conclude in the U.S. and Canada this summer. Stops include Dubai in the United Arab Emirates; Stockholm, Sweden; Milan, Italy; Paris; and London.
They will play 44 North American cities, finishing in Honolulu in September. No word yet on if and when they come to Chicago. A full schedule will be released later.
ROLE CALL: Sarah Jessica Parker is in the mood for love: She is attached to star in “Love Walked In,” The Hollywood Reporter says.
She’ll play a sophisticated single who thinks she is in love with the perfect man. But the arrival of a daughter whom the man left when she was young creates complications, as well as a bond between Parker’s character and the daughter.
Parker next stars in the comedy “Failure to Launch” with Matthew McConaughey.
SPLITSVILLE: Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler and his wife of 17 years, Teresa, are separating, the singer announced Sunday.
Tyler, 56, asked the public to respect his privacy in a statement released through the band’s publicist, Mitch Schneider.
“Before the tabloid media makes more of this than it is, I am announcing that my wife Teresa and I are currently separated,” Tyler said. “We’re just a family trying to work through a difficult time. A little privacy and sensitivity–for Teresa, my children and myself–would be nice.”
The couple have two teenage children, Chelsea, 16, and Taj, 13. Tyler also is the father of model Mia Tyler, from a previous marriage to Cyrinda Fox, and actress Liv Tyler, from a previous relationship.
DAYS OF OUR WIVES
It was a gay old time on TV last night–on Wisteria Lane as well as on “The Simpsons.”
Bree, who seems to be making up for years of sexual repression, confronted her teenage kids’ sex lives this week–after dabbling in bondage on the last episode. A green condom she found at home led her on a trail of her daughter’s sexual issues, but probably distracted her from the best nugget of the night. Late in the show, Susan found Gabrielle’s new gardener hooking up at a pool party with Bree’s son, Andrew.
“I’m not gay!” he yelled, but wait until Bree finds out about this one.
Now, to the conspiracy theories …
– Susan finally sees the scary side of Mike–thanks to the cops, who laid out his prison record for drug-trafficking and manslaughter. The dessert-obsessed old man told Mike that he has lots of money so he’ll take care of the police problems. RedEye’s theory: Mike was saved by the old guy years ago and has been unwillingly indebted to him ever since. Now, Mike is backed further into the corner.
– Gabrielle and Carlos are talking about moving from their Wisteria mansion into an affordable apartment. Right.
RedEye’s theory: How’s that hospital stay going for Carlos’ mother? When she dies, the Solises inherit a boatload of cash and they’re livin’ large again.
– Zach is too creepy. RedEye’s theory: He’s about to do something bad, real bad.
