This is regarding “Earth shattering: Kyoto treaty takes off without U.S.” (Commentary, Feb. 13), by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy’s statement that we are “the world’s biggest polluter” may be correct, but we are also the world’s largest industrialized nation. It seems that he would want to bring us down to the level of other Third World countries, which sounds like a one-world order, one that smacks of socialism.
His commentary reminds me of the story of Chicken Little who wanted to keep telling the king that the sky was falling, when in fact it was not. But Chicken Little was convinced it was.
Why are those individuals whom Kennedy agrees with so right, but all others are so wrong?
I agree that conservation and efficiency will make our industry and our nation more competitive and cleaner, but let’s not accuse some of trying to line their own pockets at the expense of the world. Global warming has probably been happening for many, many years and may be a natural phenomenon, but Kennedy and his ilk seem to want to place the blame on the United States for all that nature has unleashed.
And how dare he ask the insulting and insidious question, comparing some of our industry leaders to terrorists; where is he on his so-called moral scale?
