Shame on former candidate for the U.S. Senate Alan Keyes for throwing his daughter out of his house and putting her entire future in jeopardy simply because she’s gay (“Strong move, Maya,” Editorial, Feb. 16).

While I’m sure that he feels he’s upholding his traditional family values, for me it’s hard to even comprehend that kind of callous anger at a member of your own family.

Cheers to the San Francisco-based Point Foundation, which provides scholarships for young people who have been marginalized because of their sexual orientation. That foundation has awarded Maya a scholarship so she can begin at Brown University.
