The Feb. 23 letter writers who excoriated Mary Schmich’s column regarding abortion must have reacted viscerally; they could not have given it a thoughtful reading. The pain and confusion of most of us abortion-rights supporters were clearly evident. Yes, there really is common ground, and both sides must work toward it. Reducing, even eliminating, the need for abortions is a goal we can all support, as Schmich’s column made very clear.
