Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

“If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. . . . Be water.”

Chicago-born rapper/actor GQ notes that the above philosophy from martial artist/actor Bruce Lee has taught him to let go of the stress his profession generates.

The actor–real name Gregory Qaiyum–a co-star in Fox’s action series “Jonny Zero” (8 p.m. Fridays, WFLD-Ch. 32), no longer worries about jobs he tries out for.

“The second you give up the thing you really want, is the moment that you actually get that,” says Qaiyum, a co-star of the movie “Drumline.”

The security of former gigs like waiting tables and driving “pedacabs”–rickshaw-like vehicles popular around New York City, where Qaiyum lives–gives him added mental relief.

“I know I can find something that can at least let me get by,” he says. “Finally accepting that allowed me so much more freedom about any audition. . . .

“That’s what I think being `the water’ means,” GQ concludes. “Just let yourself take the shape of the space that you’re in.”
