To the recent returnees from Iraq from the 1544th Transportation Company in Paris, the 3625th Maintenance Company in North Riverside and the 3637th Maintenance Company in Springfield, welcome back (“Cheers, tears for 3 Illinois National Guard units; Bittersweet `welcome home’ says it all,” Page 1, Feb. 23).

And thank you.

These words are insufficient at best to relay what we all owe you for your service, and for what you lost.

But these words are heartfelt and sincere.

And now it is our turn, those of us who stayed at home while these brave people served their country overseas, to support them in a look to their futures, with jobs and financial aid and whatever else they might need. It is the least we can do.

Let’s make the war truly over for them and let’s help them get on with their lives, which were interrupted by their sacrifices and duty.
