– Hummer is extending the basic warranty on 2006 models to four years/50,000 miles from three years/36,000 miles. The warranty includes free scheduled maintenance. The longer warranty begins with the H1 Alpha, which recently went on sale as Hummer’s first 2006 model.

– Ford doesn’t expect its Escape hybrid sport-utility vehicle to be profitable for “at least a couple of years,” President Jim Padilla says. The automaker says the costs to build the complex SUV contribute to the forecast. Ford expects to sell 20,000 gasoline-electric Escape and Mariner SUVs in 2005.
