– The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirms that more people are using cell phones when driving. The survey found 8 percent of drivers, or 1.2 million people, used hand-held or hands-free cell phones in daylight hours last year, up 50 percent from 2002 and 100 percent in four years.

– Luxury carmaker BMW says profits rose 29 percent, to $734.7 million, in the fourth quarter of last year and helped the automaker post a 14 percent increase in full-year earnings, to $2.9 billion, on strong sales of new models and a focus on its premium brands. BMW also produces cars under the Mini and Rolls-Royce brands.
