The South Suburban Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) program, which provides emergency shelter between mid-October and mid-April, is looking for volunteers to help implement a new interim housing program during warm-weather months, PADS executive director Michael Wasserberg said.
The program would serve temporarily homeless people who are working or close to securing a job and are seeking permanent housing.
Leaders of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Chicago Heights have agreed to host the interim housing program on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. PADS also provides dinner, breakfast and a sack lunch.
Wasserberg said at least 100 additional volunteers are needed before the new program begins on April 18.
