The high-five, a favorite among middle-age males, has been on a slow and awkward decline for years. But after Tiger Woods and his caddie, Steve Williams, fumbled the celebratory gesture after Woods’ remarkable birdie on 16 during the final round of the Masters, the Tempo Subcommittee on Gesticulation is issuing this plea: Stop high-fiving before someone gets seriously injured.

What then, you might ask, are the alternatives? There’s the increasingly popular fist tap or the more subtle low-five. But how about a nice hug, after all, that’s what Woods and Williams did after nearly decapitating each other on Sunday.
