The Wisconsin proposal to authorize the hunting and massacring of stray and feral cats exemplifies the brazenness and irreverence for life harbored by many hunters and so-called outdoorsmen (“Fur flies in Wisconsin spat between hunters and cat lovers,” Page 1, April 8).
They have the audacity to ostracize cats because felines are natural predators who prey on birds and small animals.
Meanwhile hunters are proud of their unnecessary and relentless killing and maiming of countless birds, deer and myriad wildlife species.
Stray and feral cats are intelligent, sentient creatures that warrant legal protection.
Conversely the cruel and violent “sport” known as hunting should be outlawed because it is inhumane and gratuitous, and it promotes the proliferation of deadly firearms.
