I strongly object to having the flag of this country fly at half-staff for the death of the pope. He was the head of a church, of a religion that represents but a fraction of the people in this country. He was not a head of state; would President Bush order flags flown at half-mast should Vladimir Putin suddenly die, or Jacques Chirac, or, for that matter, the Queen of England? I think not. I think that this is a blatantly political gesture and is a dangerous overlap of church and state.
