Being a lifelong Catholic, I have been repulsed for quite some time that Cardinal Bernard Law was allowed to slip out of the U.S. only to receive a big job in the Vatican. Kudos to Law for keeping his political connections intact so that he could dodge further scrutiny. Have we forgotten the opprobrium brought upon the Catholic Church due to this arrogant man’s actions? Have we forgotten the tens of thousands of Catholics who left the church because of what he allowed to happen in Boston? And what about the tens of millions in settlements and legal fees that ordinary Catholics are paying to clean up his mess?

The Catholic Church has neatly swept his actions under the rug. As Catholics we should be outraged.

The Catholic Church should have dealt with this problem in an up-front manner. Law should have been immediately demoted, or even laicized, and the church should have apologized for his actions. Instead it sounds like he got a promotion.
