I was appalled by the letters to the editor on April 18 that suggested that we forgive and forget Cardinal Bernard Law’s transgressions. Forgiving does not demand keeping him in high office. I left this church because it has been so intolerant and unwelcoming to many, including my grandmother after her divorce; my mother, who married a Protestant; my friend, the priest, who chose to marry; gays who love same-sex partners; and even people who use birth control. Yet when it comes to child molesting, no problem!
Some say Law did what he thought was right at the time. Sorry but I don’t think it was ever right to condone child molesting.
