Prices on the 2006 Hyundai Sonata sedan start at $17,895 for a base GL model with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission. That is $1,446 more than the comparable 2005 model, but includes as standard side-curtain air bags and electronic stability control. The 2005 model is midsize based on interior volume, and the redesigned 2006 is a large car. A 4-speed automatic is a $900 option on the GL model. The most expensive model is the LX, which has a new 3.3-liter V-6 and 5-speed automatic, starting at $22,895. Prices do not include the $600 destination charge. Sonata goes on sale May 1.
