– The company that owns the S.S. Badger car ferry has made more than $100,000 in improvements to compete with the Lake Express for passengers crossing Lake Michigan. The Badger has been redecorated, a children’s play area was redesigned and a part-time staffer was hired to oversee children’s activities. Pets also are now allowed on deck in a special ventilated kennel area and will get treats. The Badger runs between Manitowoc, Wis., and Ludington, Mich., at 18 miles per hour, and the Lake Express travels between Milwaukee and Muskegon, Mich., at 40 m.p.h. Both start in mid-May.

– I-GO car sharing says it will put one of its cars on the Lake Shore campus of Loyola University of Chicago, making it available to the university and residents of the surrounding Rogers Park and Edgewater neighborhoods. Members have 24-hour access to I-GO cars. Members pay for hourly use of the cars. Visit www. igocars.org.
