The Wolves held on to defeat the Houston Aeros 2-1 in Game 4 of the AHL West Division semifinals Sunday at the Toyota Center to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
“This was one of our best efforts of the postseason,” Wolves coach John Anderson said. “We’re going to let this one sink in for a bit with the day off.”
J.P. Vigier scored in the first period and Steve Maltais added a power-play goal in the third to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead.
Matt Foy’s first goal of the playoffs late in the third period was Houston’s lone score.
Kari Lehtonen had 34 saves for the Wolves.
Houston outshot the Wolves for the first time this series, 35-27.
The Wolves and Aeros will meet in Game 5 at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Toyota Center.
The Wolves have gone on to win the championship both times it has defeated the Aeros in a Game 3.
