One of the quintuplets born to a surrogate mother last month has been upgraded to fair condition, hospital officials said.

The change is a marked improvement from last week, when Javier Moreno was listed in extremely critical condition after heart surgery May 2, said Phoenix Children’s Hospital spokeswoman Jane Walton.

At 3 pounds, 7 ounces, Javier is the smallest of five boys.

A 25-year-old surrogate mother delivered the boys April 26 to a couple she met on the Internet. The other babies–Enrique, Jorge, Gabriel and Victor–were reportedly doing well.
