This Mother’s Day was only my second. I traveled all day with my toddler, flying from Dallas, back from tending to the last days of my grandmother, who passed last Friday, into a busy and congested Chicago. As a single mother, there was no Mother’s Day card waiting for me in the mailbox; there was no one to send one.
But when I read the many kind, tender and appreciative letters from your readers toward mothers (Voice of the people, May 8), I felt as though they were especially for me. I know they weren’t for me personally, but they showed how all those little touches–and sometimes massive efforts–are one day truly appreciated.
Even though I didn’t receive a single card, after reading your letters I felt, somehow, as though I did.
For those who took the time to write, thank you.
