Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
Your point in “Biblical ignorance” (Editorial, May 12) is well-taken. It provokes the larger issue sometimes called “cultural literacy.” It is this type of literacy that the intellectual short-circuit of political correctness ignores (thereby undermining itself).
A year ago, at age 54, I committed to reading the entire Bible from cover to cover for myself. I read a chapter a day and am about halfway through. No one has yet asked me if I’ve seen Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.” I suppose it is assumed that everyone has already seen it, but I have not. If someone does ask, my answer is ready: “I wanted to read the book first!”
