The Romeoville Village Board on Wednesday approved a bid to construct a new public park as well as gave the go ahead for a private park at Bible Baptist Church.
Trustees accepted Green-Up Landscaping’s $61,608 bid to build Kiwanis Park in the Lakewood 7C subdivision at Shannon and Bayless Drives.
Plans for the public park include a concrete path, playground with swings and a modular play feature as well as items such as landscaping and a bench.
Trustee Andy Goitia said residents have been waiting for the park for a long time and he is glad it is finally getting done.
The board also approved rezoning from estate residential to single-family residential for the Bible Baptist Church and School, 301 Normantown Rd.
A planned unit development will make the church, school and three residences where staff members live one parcel.
As part of the plan, church officials will build a fenced-in park in an area in the yards of the three homes at 633-635 Fenton Ave. to be used only by the church and school.
Trustee Linda Palmiter pointed out that, aside from the park, residents will not see any changes as a result of the rezoning and planned unit development for the church.
