The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary investigation involving 75,000 2004-05 Toyota Prius hybrids after reports of the engine stalling without warning. The agency says it has received 33 complaints of the problem. Most involve stalling at speeds of 35 and 65 m.p.h. and about half say the car would not restart. More than 88,000 2004 and 2005 Prius cars have been sold in the U.S. NHTSA investigations can lead to vehicle recalls.
