This is regarding the editorial “Hello–and goodbye.” Amen. While I understand companies trying to be efficient, I resent being kept hostage in the voicemail vortex.

When did wasting customers’ time become a national business mantra? It’s not just the bank and the post office anymore.

What’s especially obnoxious are the voicemail systems that don’t even allow you to opt out to 0 and get an operator. Often after a call’s resolution, instead of having the luxury of being pleasant, I often border on rudeness in my haste to get off the phone before the spiel kicks in.
