At first I was outraged at ABC for pre-empting regular broadcasting for the news of the Michael Jackson verdict. Then when this sideshow went on for I don’t know how long (I turned it off after 10 minutes), I became appalled and disgusted by all the broadcast media. To treat this event as if it were of national importance equal to an earthquake, a tornado or some major occurrence of significance is obscene. Are we so decadent that we have become a nation that responds to “bread and circuses”?
