A motorbike with a hydrogen fuel cell is set to go on sale in the U.S. next year for about $6,000. The ENV, for emissions neutral vehicle, has made its U.S. debut in California. Built by British-based Intelligent Energy, the 176-pound motorbike accelerates to a top speed of 50 m.p.h. in 12 seconds and goes more than 100 miles before needing refueling. The ENV (pronounced “envy”) is powered by a compact fuel cell and supplemented on acceleration by an electric motor. The fuel cell charges a battery pack, so the bike doesn’t need to be plugged in.
