Letter writer Mike Polley stated that the most valuable lesson that the Northwestern women’s lacrosse champions learned was that they may be remembered more for wearing flip-flops to the White House than for winning the national championship (Voice of the people, July 29). I agree. There is a powerful lesson in the experience. The lesson? In 2005, women are still judged more by what they look like and what they wear than what they do.
