Discovery conference on the way
The 11th annual Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, titled “Make No Small Plans,” takes place Sunday through Aug. 24 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Wacker Drive.
The event is hosted by the University of Illinois at Chicago National Center for Data Mining and sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery.
Events include a 10th anniversary reception from 7 to 10 p.m. on Aug. 22 at the Field Museum. Prabhakar Raghavan, head of research at Yahoo, professor of computer science at Stanford University and an expert in the field of information retrieval and text mining, will deliver one of the conference’s keynote addresses, titled “Incentive Networks,” at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Gian Fulgoni, chairman and co-founder of ComScore Networks Inc. and a leader in the field of marketing research and media measurement, will present “Mining the Internet: The Eighth Wonder of the World,” at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, professor of physics at the University of Notre Dame and a researcher in scale-free networks, will deliver a third speech, “The Architecture of Complexity: The Structure and the Dynamics of Networks, From the Web to the Cell,” at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
