I am a diehard White Sox fan transplanted to Northern California, and Rick Morrissey’s Friday column was dead-on. If the Sox had continued to win at a .700 clip, I would expect the team plane to go down. That’s how it is when your team gets in the World Series every 46 years. That’s how it is when you’re a Chicago sports fan–the Bears have promise; the quarterback breaks his ankle in Week 1.
I think the Sox will be OK–it’s the rest of us I worry about–but they could use a big bat. Every top team has one, so I don’t think it’s realistic to expect the Sox to get to the promised land with this lineup.
