Baseball players have always been superstitious. But White Sox outfielder Timo Perez went to unusual lengths to help the team end a seven-game losing streak on Sunday. He hung up a pair of black panties–“extra wide”–in the clubhouse at U.S. Cellular Field.
The Sox went out and and whupped the Yankees 6-2.
Perez wasn’t around to discuss the, well … unmentionables, but teammate Aaron Rowand did. “We had the ‘Rally Panties’ up today,” Rowand said, co-opting the name of the “Rally Monkey” mascot the Angels used during their 2002 championship season. “A woman’s undergarment–a large undergarment–was our rallying flag.”
