I was crushed to the core to read the reason that was given for White Sox draft pick Jordan Danks, a top high school player, not signing with the team this year (Tribune, Aug. 27). His father has let us know Jordan wants to attend the University of Texas.
Wow, I thought–what a fine young man. Getting an education is more important to him than making a few bucks playing baseball. But then we are informed that Jordan simply wants to play ball at the University of Texas for a couple of years before stepping up to major-league ball with the Sox.
Oh well, maybe he’ll take a couple of courses too.
