With the fourth anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, I took the time to watch a documentary about the firehouse in New York on the day of the attacks. As I watched, all I could think about is how far we have regressed as a nation in those four years.
In the hours, days and weeks after that fateful day, there were really no Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals, pro-war and anti-war or black or white. We were all simply Americans.
Katrina has shown that natural disasters don’t bring us together as a country as we bicker about who is to blame.
It’s disheartening to say, but I almost hope that the next major disaster that we have to experience as a country is from terrorism. That way we can all react as Americans.
