In “Attacking Bush” (Voice of the people, Sept. 18), letter writer Barbara Weist does not seem to understand. “We” wouldn’t consider blaming our president for Hurricane Katrina but only for the shortsightedness of cutting flood-control money from the budget and for appointing inept friends, who were/are inexperienced and therefore incapable of doing the jobs for which they were appointed: to head our departments to deal with disasters.

For the hurricane itself, we blame the intelligent designer.
