– Model Elle Macpherson, concerned that she and her family may be targeted by animal-rights activists if photos of her modeling furs make print, has reportedly instructed her lawyers to get the photos pulled. They were taken as part of Blackglama’s long-running “What Becomes a Legend Most” campaign.

– Hundreds flocked to Fairmount, Ind.–James Dean’s hometown–over the weekend to mark the 50th anniversary of the actor’s death. Events Friday included a church service, a candlelight vigil, processions to Dean’s gravesite and screening of a documentary about his life. Dean was 24 when he died in a California car crash. “For me, he represents all the people who died too young who had so much to give to the world,” said Sandra Weinhardt, who operates a Dean Web site.

– “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino, 21, reveals in her memoirs that she is functionally illiterate and had to fake her way through some scripted portions of the televised talent show, which she won in 2004.
