Banking across borders

“Cross-Border Banking: Regulatory Challenges,” the 9th Annual International Finance Conference sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the World Bank, begins Thursday.

The conference will address the current landscape of cross-border activity, the resulting competitive implications and alternative competitive strategies, emerging challenges for prudential regulation, safety net provisions and failure resolution issues.

Keynote presentations will be given by: Howard Davies, director of the London School of Economics and Political Science; Eugene Ludwig, managing partner of Promontory Financial Group and former comptroller of the currency, U.S. Department of Treasury; Guillermo Ortiz, governor of Banco de Mexico; Nicholas LePan, Canada’s superintendent of financial institutions and vice chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.

The two-day event begins at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, 230 S. LaSalle St.
