“Rock Star: INXS” runner-up Marty Casey won over millions of rock fans this summer. Sure, that’s great. But for a kid from the South Side, playing a couple songs with his band the Lovehammers before Tuesday’s White Sox playoff game was really big time.

“This is the coolest thing to date,” Casey told RedEye moments after he finished playing on the field at U.S. Cellular Field.

The next coolest thing may come if Casey and the Lovehammers open for INXS, (starring new lead singer J.D. Fortune) on Feb. 4 at the Chicago Theatre. It’s the only INXS tour date in Chicago, according to the band’s Web site.

Casey said the band will make a final decision on whether to join the INXS tour by the end of the week. “We’re just trying to decide if that’s the right fit, and we think it is,” Casey said.
