Sylvia Shuger, age 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her three children and granddaughter on Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 at LaPorte Hospital. Sylvia was born April 10, 1914 in Chicago. She was the daughter of the late Morris and Mildred Shapiro. On June 24, 1942 she married Dr. Harry Shuger, who preceded her in death Aug. 26, 1982. She is survived by three children, Farel (Chris Horn) Krueger of LaPorte, IN, Sandra (Charles W.) Shuger Griffin of Covert, MI and Marc (Jane) Shuger of Long Beach, IN; granddaughter, Lauren (Andrew) Carter of Ft. Riley, KS; and her special cat, Jamie. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Malvina Rice and Shirley Krauss and brother, Bernard Michael Shapiro. Visitation will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City, IN on Thursday, Oct. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. Graveside Services will be 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at West Lawn Cemetery, Chicago. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of donor’s choice or the Independent Cat Society.
