At this time, with concern for people who were forced to decide between being saved from Hurricanes Katrina or Rita and leaving their beloved pets behind, or staying with their pets and risking possible harm or death, I would like to remind people of the thousands of women, and men, in Chicago who are victims of domestic violence and face this same decision every day. Shelters must make contingency plans that will accommodate pets to help these victims as well.
