I’m fed up with the way the Bush administration keeps trying to convince us that Iraq and Afghanistan are both noble wars.

Any well-informed American knows that invading Afghanistan was noble and fully justified because this was the home base of the people who attacked the USS Cole and the World Trade Center.

Iraq, however, is clearly a different story.

President George W. Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld justified the Iraqi invasion as necessary to keep weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of terrorists, and their discussion of spreading democracy in the Middle East became an excuse only after they realized there were no such weapons.

Rather than admitting they made a huge mistake, this administration continues to make deceptive statements in an effort to convince the public that both wars are part of our battle against terrorism.

Yes terrorists are now in Iraq, but they came in after our invasion to kill foreign occupiers, just like they did in Afghanistan after the Russians invaded that country 20 years ago.

To make sure future presidents do not lead us into unjustified wars again, we all must keep these two wars separate in our minds.

One is noble and justified.

The other is a big mistake that has left thousands dead and severely damaged our image in the world community.
