Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

1. Follow the Angels

Here’s how I got ready for Game 2: Took an early-morning flight to Orange County, came back on the nooner and didn’t sleep a wink. It helped.

2. Deep thoughts

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Two radio station flunkies and one really stupid stunt.

Oh, I’ve heard this one before. It’s not funny.

3. I miss the Mansion

The Sox play for a pennant, and Hugh Hefner splashes about town. Feels like 1959 all over again.

4. See the pattern

John Stanis, a 95-year-old Sox fan, was alive the last time the Sox won a World Series. He was also alive the last time they lost one. So look, he’s due.

5. N.Y. minute

Antonio Davis is bummed that he got traded to the Knicks, but I’m thinking he’s more bummed that he got traded to the Knicks with Eddy Curry.

6. Letter men

Looks like Duke’s Coach K. coaches the 2008 U.S. Olympic team. Coach J and Coach L are reportedly furious.

7. Just the facts

Bears cut kicker Doug Brien. Brien replaced Paul Edinger. Edinger has made 7-of-8 kicks for the Vikings with a long kick of 53 yards. Vikings play here Sunday.

8. Open invite

College basketball’s Midnight Madness is Friday night, followed by Saturday’s Afternoon Hangover

9. Congrats!

Dave Wannstedt has taken a Pitt team that went 8-4 and played in a New Year’s Day bowl and improved it to 2-4.

FIVE THINGS…

Five sports connections to Hugh Hefner’s life:

– 1926: He’s born … Blackhawks were founded.

– 1940: He attends Steinmetz High School … Cubs finish 25 1 1/42 games out.

– 1944: He joins the Army … Bears go

6-3-1.

– 1953: He starts Playboy … Sox draw 1,191,353.

– 1971: He moves to California … Chet Walker leads Bulls in scoring.
